Eye Examination
About Eye Examination
Regular eye examinations are an essential part of maintaining good vision and overall eye health. At Sanders Opticians, we provide thorough, professional eye tests in a relaxed and friendly environment.
Our appointments combine clinical expertise with a personalised approach, ensuring you receive the highest standard of care from the moment you arrive. No matter if it’s a regular check-up or a new concern with your eyesight, our team is here to offer guidance and support with clarity, confidence and care.
The importance of eye exams
We recommend having an eye examination every 2 years, even if your vision seems unchanged. This is because many eye conditions develop gradually and can go unnoticed until they become more advanced. Regular visits allow us to detect early signs of issues such as glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration and other health conditions that may affect the eyes.
Our routine eye exams last 30 minutes and are followed by an optional 30-minute dispensing appointment if you need new glasses. Your test may include visual field screening if necessary, as well as tonometry and retinal photography. For an even more detailed analysis, we offer OCT scans at an additional cost. This advanced imaging provides high-resolution pictures of the retina, the light-sensitive layer at the back of your eye that detects images, and the optic nerve, which carries visual information from your eye to your brain.
What to expect during an eye exam
During your examination, your optometrist will assess your vision, check your eye health and discuss any symptoms or concerns you may have. We use advanced diagnostic equipment to ensure accuracy and early detection.
Our Topcon OCT Fundus Camera captures detailed images of the retina, optic nerve and macula, helping us identify abnormalities at their earliest stage. The Topcon Visual Field Analyser maps your peripheral vision, highlighting potential nerve or brain-related issues. We also use the Pulsair tonometer to measure eye pressure and autorefractors, which help refine your prescription. This is especially useful for children and patients who struggle with subjective responses.
Throughout your appointment, our qualified staff offer clear explanations and expert advice, ensuring you feel informed and at ease.
